Update - Dampier Sale

Several nice horses passed through the tent today at L.D. and Sheila Dampier's sale. Overcoming a rough, wet Friday start, Saturday's weather was a pleasant surprise. If you are in the market for a reasonably priced trail horse you missed a great opportunity in Lebanon. As always, L.D. had 15 - 20 ready to go trail prospects and another 20 found their way to the sale. Remember When, a 13 yr. old gelding owned by Kent Hyde of Springfield and purchased by R.L. Webb of Cabool, topped at $3,500. Another handful sold in the $2,500 + range. Most going to out of state buyers. Another 10 entries were bid into the $3,000 range, but in the end were no-saled. In a rough estimate, half of the consignees were a color other than sorrel.

All points show an upswing in the good horse market.

L.D. Dampier's Sale - Gateway to Spring

The 3rd of April will mark the 27th Annual Production and Consignment sale for L.D. Dampier and family. The Dampier sale has been a first sign and rite of Spring for foxtrotter enthusiasts of all kinds since its inception. More than just a sale, L.D.'s is the first time many friends, competitors and acquaintances will meet since last year's Celebration. The alleyways are a breeding ground for rumors of the next great show prospect hitting the ring and the successes and failures of the winter's conquests. If this isn't enough to get you to Lebanon the first weekend of April, you will be glad to know that several nice horses will be sold as well. Buyers from all over the nation make the pilgrimage to SW Missouri each spring to peruse L.D.'s wares, many who have made the same trip for years. Their is always a great selection of trail horses and, on a more than rare occasion, you can pick up a worthwhile prospect for the show ring. There will be a horse of every size, color, breeding and function and a seller who will be more than willing to share its particulars.

For those of you who are reading this and won't be able to make the trip, L.D. and his wife Sheila accept bids over the phone. They are more than accommodating to anyone wanting further info about a sale entry. L.D., the consummate salesman, would appreciate any opportunity to help you find what you need.  Give them a call if you need a catalog, have questions, or would like to inquire about bidding; 417-532-3806, cell 417-533-2397.

Ritchie & Lola Moberly

Ritchie and Lola Moberly are MFT breeders and avid show horse supporters from the metropolitan Kansas City area. Their stable boasts several World Champion Fox Trotting horses. Lola was gracious enough to answer a few of our questions.

  1. Where are you from? Where do you ride? If you own a farm, tell us about it. We reside on a small farm in the Kansas City area, Liberty MO-to be exact.  We don't ride anymore due to health issues, but love watching the shows and raising Foxtrotting babies.
  2. Where do you do professionally? Ritchie has long been involved in the cattle business and owned a commission firm in the Kansas City Stockyards until the yards closed in 1990.  He is still active in the cattle business on a part time basis. I am a retired banking officer from Bank of America.
  3. How (and how long) have you been involved with Foxtrotting horses? We have owned Missouri Foxtrotters since the late 1980's, when we "borrowed" a Foxtrotter for one of our trail rides.  We owned quarter horses at the time and borrowed a bay Foxtrotting mare from a friend when one of our quarter horses went lame.   That was the end of the quarter horses for us and the beginning of our breeding program when we purchased that bay foxtrotting mare and decided to raise a foal.
